The third day on the Maltese Archipelago.After the first 2 days, there sure were only a fewpeople which hadn't been excited for the following day to arrive.
As usual, we enjoyed study periods between 9:30hrs to 13:30hrs. After the lessons we prepared ourselves for our trip to Valletta, the capital of Malta. We first met our new guide in the bus on our way to Valetta. She did a fantastic job in introducing us to the history and present of the city.
The name of Valetta derives from its founder, Jean Parisot de la Vallette in 1566, after the Malta siege in 1565. The ottoman empire besieged the island which was defended by the Knights Hospitaller, a christian military order.
They decided to built a massively fortified city as a stronghold against future attacks, thus the city of Valletta was born. We visited a couple of known places in Valletta, like the Auberge de Castille (residence of Malta's prime minister) as well as the Upper Barrakka Gardens.
We also had the opportunity to see a audiovisual documentary in a dedicated cinema in the city, which provided us with more detailed information.
Afterwards, later in the evening bowling had been on our schedule.
With several groups of each 6 players, everyone tried their best! Elisabeth Liebminger, one of our group leaders seemed to have an advantage throughout the games. Her secret was soon revealed, she had been training with her Wii at home.
A promising day did not fail to deliver, and we are looking forward to seeing for the things to come.
